Abstract

This essay examines the presence of Napoleon Bonaparte in the literature before and after the Independence of Brazil (1822) by discussing the way some poets of the period, mostly related to Romanticism, focused their work on the corso. The paper’s main aim is to highlight the change in expectations of such focus, which can be accounted for in terms of the historical and political context that frames such poetic production.
