Abstract

Since the signing of a peace agreement, in 1984, Chile and Argentina have increased their political and economic links. In the field of defense, the armies of both countries began a process of rapprochement favoured by the advent of democratic governments and the promotion of a set of affirmative actions known as confidence and security building measures.  At present, Chile and Argentina have established a joint peace force that will shortly be placed at the disposal of the United Nations. This initiative contributes to the region's efforts to cooperatively face regional and global security challenges in the aftermath of 11 September 2001.
