Typographic Disfluency Effect: Findings on the Balance Between Legibility and Visual Pregnancy

Abstract

Readability and typographic fluency are essential for the effective transmission of messages. This article introduces and explores the concept of typographic disfluency, which is evident in certain fonts. Despite their apparent difficulty in reading, these fonts may encourage deeper information processing. The article questions whether readability difficulty can benefit the reader in understanding and retaining the message by disrupting reading fluency, potentially enhancing learning processes.
