Abstract

The importance of design is such that its transversality makes it applicable in diverse fields and contexts, some of which become especially important due to their everyday nature. Buying packaged foods is a routine task crucial for those who need to avoid allergens or comply with dietary restrictions. However, access to this information is made difficult by the lack of Chilean food labelling regulations and the limited consideration for people with low vision. Despite this, design facilitates the theory and practice needed to improve the readability of food packaging for a broader public that has so far been neglected by both producers and design education. This article will discuss how design can improve the visualization of information for people with low vision in the context of food packaging production, using key elements of typography, color, and contrast.
